PIPOLI

Valentino Sciotti (of Vesevo, Gran Sasso and other Farnese estates) took over this small co-operative in Basilicata in Acerenza in the heart of the Aglianico del Vulture zone in 2008.

Consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini, now works with talented youngDennis Verdicchia, and together they managed to capture the character of the grapes and the zone superbly in the bottle.

Light gold in colour, with an intense, clean perfume of summer flowers and white peaches. On the palate it is intense but fresh, with a lemon and lime twist to the ripe, tropical and peachy fruit character. Good depth and lively finish.
Basilicata is the instep of the Italian boot.

This hilly and mountainous region is located in the southwest corner of Italy on the Ionian Sea. Parts of Bascilicata have been settled since the Stone Age. It was conquered by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Normans. When the pirates came, the local inhabitants were forced to flee into the interior. Historically the region is quite poor. Its population is slightly more than 600 thousand.
