FRATELLI D’ANNA
This wine establishes its credentials from the outset – its handshake is ever-so-firm – but once it has your attention it then entrances with delicate perfumes and soils and blossomy fruit flavours. It’s a beauty. Leathery but deep, floral, substantial, almost salty and bitter but not quite either, and with a cloth of tannin wrapped tight about it all. The sensuous side of seriousness. It’s a treat to have it bottled like this. No amelioration, no real adornment; the authority of Tuscany and of Brunello captured between pincers.
For the last few years I have been making annual trips to talk to wineries with similar philosophies to not only import and represent these wineries in Australia but to also work on a special little project focusing on wines under our Fratelli D’Anna label. when you visit the cellars of a winery, there are always barrels that stand out and having a label like Fratelli D’Anna, it will give us the opportunity to purchase these barrels or wines to showcase on their own (rather than being blended back with other barrels).
